| I love studying athletes.
Everyone says that Crypto's player vs. player.
If that's the case, you should study the mindset of athletes because they're the ultimate competitors.
Here's one lesson I've learned from Conor McGregor (the highest-paid MMA athlete ever). An interviewer asked him once, "What's the secret to your success?"
You probably expect the typical answers: hard work, talent, and passion.
However, McGregor gave an answer I didn't expect... "You can get a reasonable amount of success by just winging it, but to reach the true heights, you've got to have a structured life, and you can't stray from that.
We've set training times and schedules and stuck to it, and I've responded really well." To win a Championship fight, his team created a structure for him to follow.
His structure included: - A schedule for every workout
- Having every meal be pre-planned
- A game plan to analyze his opponent's weaknesses
- Training designed specifically to target his weaknesses
Notice a few things... - Conor isn't "winging it" - there's a system for everything. He knows exactly what to eat daily instead of just looking inside the fridge and figuring it out.
He practices the most efficient combos. He has a strict schedule for each day and leaves nothing to chance.
- Experts guide him. He has coaches helping him analyze his opponents and experts guiding his nutrition. His time is better spent on daily training than figuring everything out himself.
How can you apply the concept of Structure to your Crypto investing?
Most people wander around Crypto without a plan. And because of that, they're constantly reacting based on their emotions.
Having structure means... - When the price of a token crashes, you have your own system for deciding whether to cut the loss or hold.
- You can spot narratives early to position yourself before the crowd comes.
- If you're stuck between two protocols, you can confidently choose which one has more potential. You can evaluate the pumpmentals, catalysts, and tokenomics to improve your odds.
- You can build a Crypto portfolio that maximizes profit, while balancing your risk tolerances and time horizon.
What about the retail investors without structure and systems? It happens every cycle...they're gonna get wrecked. Because they're not confident in their decisions, they'll rely on YouTubers and become their exit liquidity.
I'll give you an easy example of structure.
McGregor woke up with an exact schedule and routine for training. That was his training structure.
You need to create a Crypto research structure. I don't wake up each day wondering what to do. I have a Keyboard macro that opens all my research tabs when I press a button.
Every day is different, but this is what a typical day looks like. - Set my 3 research outcomes for the day.
- Check my portfolio on Debank
- Check my Twitter list for major news
- Check DeFiLlama / DexScreener
- Check my watchlists of tokens for price movement/catalysts
- Observe whale wallets and smart money flows
- Deeper research, such as reading medium articles or white papers
- Execute trades / claim tokens
- Write down my theses and what happened each day in the space.
- and more
2 hours of focused research with a structure will get you further than the guy who spends 8+ hours a day screwing around on Crypto Twitter / Discord.
Time isn't the limiting factor - it's structure + focus.
Structures are how you make more informed decisions rather than gamble around.
Here's the issue:
Building your systems takes thousands of hours and trial and error. Time is running out since the bull market started. - Lebron's not wasting time figuring out his diet - he leverages a nutritionist.
- If an athlete gets injured, they leave it to the experts to help them rehab.
Every GOAT athlete doesn't start from 0. They leverage experts and focus on execution.
