Around 13 years ago, I was obsessed with a video game. Starcraft 2. Damn, if I only I was obsessed with Bitcoin instead... Anyways, I invested hundreds of hours into the game. I couldn't breakthrough to the highest levels which was Grandmaster. I hit a plateau. Sure, I could've quit the game but I'm too competitive. I just needed to hit this goal to prove to myself I could do it. That same year, I came across a book that hit me like a brick: Robert Greene's Mastery. It dives into how world-class performers actually become world-class. Spoiler: it's not talent or shortcuts. One idea stuck with me hard. He preaches that observational learning is the foundation of mastery. "The goal of an apprenticeship is not to gain money or a title, but to observe deeply, absorb patterns, and understand how things really work." Basically, other people have already figured it out. The most efficient path to mastery is to spend time observing what they're doing. Do that first BEFORE getting the reps in. Here are some examples: 1) Leonardo DaVinci. When Leonardo was just a teenager, he apprenticed under the painter Verrocchio. He didn't start by painting. He started by watching. Mixing pigments. Preparing canvases. Observing the brushwork. Years of silent, careful observation before ever touching a brush. 2) Paul Graham, the co-founder of Y Combinator, doesn't hand founders a 12-step blueprint to success. He lets them sit in on the thinking. Office hours. Unfiltered feedback. Essays on real-time decisions. YC founders say watching Paul dissect a problem taught them more than any book on startups ever could. 3) Bruce Lee? He learned Wing Chun by watching his master, Ip Man, spar. He didn't just memorize forms. He studied reactions, movements, adjustments. Only then did he start building his own system called Jeet Kune Do which was based on the principles he had seen in action. When you can observe someone work through messy, real-world problems, you absorb their decision-making frameworks. You see their process, filters, & their mental models. And that kind of learning stays with you forever. This is the power of observational learning. I took a break from playing Starcraft. Instead, I downloaded replays of the pros playing. For example... A pro player was getting zerg rushed. I paused the video and asked, "What would I do?" Well, the pro did something completely different and defended the rush. One that would've completely crushed me. But that exercise gave me a new approach to my defense. After 2 months, I reached Grandmaster status (Top 200 player on my server). I've always wondered how you could apply observational learning in Crypto. The truth is...I wasn't able to when I was a newbie. I don't think many of us have IRL access to Crypto experts. And even if you did, I don't think they'll let you sit next to them while they're trading. And what about learning through YouTube? Well... - People don't share their losses.
- Everything's edited and polished. Every video's designed for the algorithm.
It's hard to learn like this in Crypto. I had to learn everything from scratch when I started. When we designed The DeFi Edge Pro, an important component in this is Observational Learning. Here's a few ways we approach this: 1. Over the Shoulder Research. Watch my screen as I do research without a script or a plan. I go into the research tools that I use daily, and you can hear my thought process in real time. 2. Portfolio Updates. Me and my team share our portfolios. We share our wins, our losses, and our reflections. You won't find this kind of transparency anywhere. 3. Market Pulse Updates. These are quick update videos on what's going on in the markets. Get our unfiltered thoughts. You don't need to spend thousands of hours trying to figure it out alone. You can watch how real research is done. In real time. With real money on the line. That's exactly what we built The DeFi Edge Pro for. If you're tired of flashy YouTube edits, recycled Twitter threads, and "alpha" that feels like guesswork...this is your seat at the table. Learn by watching the process, not just reading the results. Talk soon, Edgy P.S. Most people try to figure crypto out alone. The smart ones watch others who've already done it. The DeFi Edge Pro gives you that front-row seat. The markets are choppy now. This is the best time to level up before the next leg. Signups are closing tomorrow. |
