ANALYSIS Bringing OpenClaw Onchain with Wayfinder Cloud Agents Parallel is a great trading card game, arguably the most "mainstream ready" game ever fielded in crypto. That's why I've followed development on Parallel Colony, the franchise's second title, ever since it was announced in 2024. Colony isn't a TCG but more of a survival simulation game. Humans won't play directly but instead will steer AI players (similar to DX Terminal Pro, but with more complexity around assets). Work on Colony is proceeding well, but its AI elements are so unique that its builders had to create their own bespoke, general-purpose infra to power it. That infra became Wayfinder. The idea is that Wayfinder Paths map out onchain actions (like bridging, swapping, lending, etc.) so AI agents can quickly execute crypto strategies for you via text commands. Wayfinder has managed to take on a life of its own beyond Colony, having become an early hub for onchain AI experiments. It's now more flexible than ever, too, thanks to its newest feature: Cloud Agents. OpenClaw for Crypto UsersOpenClaw is an AI coding agent framework that has gone viral this year thanks to its agents being able to plan and execute multi-step tasks without you having to steer them all along the way. That's powerful. And these nifty assistants can do basically anything you'd normally want to do onchain yourself, but only if you pair them with the right resources. That's because out of the box, OpenClaw has no native understanding of crypto. You have to do some manual tinkering to prep a default agent to be able to transact onchain for you. This customizing is far from an impossible hurdle, but it can be overwhelming for non-technical beginners. This is where Wayfinder Cloud Agents come in. It's a launcher that lets you deploy OpenClaw instances preloaded with Wayfinder's SDK, wallet tech, and native support for eight EVM chains including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, and Polygon. In other words, it's a way to get the perks of OpenClaw with crypto powers without having to manually set up these onchain capabilities yourself. Additionally, at $13.99 a month, this deployer undercuts most comparable hosted setups considerably. Clawi, which I've tried and liked, costs $30 per month in comparison and doesn't offer agents preconfigured for crypto. How to Onboard - Getting started
Go to strategies.wayfinder.ai and sign in with your preferred wallet. Then pick your base model: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or DeepSeek. - Connect your model
Next, Wayfinder will prompt you for an API key for your model. For example, I have a Claude account, so I topped up with $5 of credits at platform.claude.com and copied my API key from there. - Connect to Telegram
Select Telegram as your communication channel (Discord and Slack support coming soon). Next, go to Telegram, start a chat with @BotFather, and send the /newbot command. After naming your bot, copy your bot token string (don't share this with anyone!) and paste it into Wayfinder. - Add your Wayfinder API
Now you'll be asked for your Wayfinder API key. If you don't already have one, click the "Get one here" link and then verify your email. After this, you can press the "Create API key" button in your settings and copy it. - Generate your SSH key
You'll be prompted to provide an SSH key to manage server access. If you opt to generate a new key pair, just make sure you save the private key file somewhere secure. Then press "Continue." - Connect your wallet and finalize
Choose the wallet you want to use to authenticate new actions. Then review your configuration details, add a server name for your bot, and click on "Validate Configuration." - Subscribe and deploy
The final prep step will be to pay the $13/month subscription. You'll be brought to a Stripe payment portal for this, and after you complete the transaction, Wayfinder will immediately begin setting up your agent server. This will take a few minutes. - Finishing up
Secure the recovery phrase you're provided with, start a chat with your bot on Telegram, and copy the pair code over to Wayfinder using the "Check for Requests" button. Approve the pairing with your wallet, and then your agent will be live. Now you can chat with it in Telegram as you please.
Dive in with PromptsAfter you're finished setting up, you can start prompting your agent to take onchain actions for you. I recommend asking it to confirm your wallet address, and then there you can deposit ETH, USDC, etc. for your agent to trade and transact with. If you're stumped about what to do at this point, you can also just ask your agent for ideas. It can do market analyses, borrows, lending, LPing, predictions, perps, and more. Pretty slick! Zooming OutIf you want to get an AI agent operating in DeFi without spending an entire weekend on configuration, Wayfinder Cloud Agents is a solid option. As I see it, the main practical gap right now is model flexibility. Premium models like Claude and Gemini will burn through API credits quickly if your agent is active, and there's currently no free open-source model options to fall back on for lighter tasks. Offering these alternatives would meaningfully lower the ongoing cost of running an agent here, so these options would make great additions as the platform matures. That's just a potential refinement, though, not a dealbreaker. If you want to see what onchain AI agents can do in production today, Wayfinder makes for a good starting point.
